Bastion U Božích muk (Bastion at Calvary), which is marked with the Roman numeral XXXI, was established when the original Gothic fortifications were rebuilt in Baroque style.
The construction of the New Town fortifications was directly connected with the founding of the New Town by Charles IV in 1348; the walls were rebuilt at the turn of the 18th century.
